What is a Sound Bath Experience?
A sound bath is a full-body meditative experience where you’re immersed in deep sound vibrations, resonating at specific tones and frequencies. It’s meant to relax, balance and facilitate healing through a shift in the brain wave state. The sounds introduced during a sound bath are an invitation into a deeper state of consciousness, an opportunity to unplug from external stimuli and to gain perspective on what’s going on within you. The goal of the experience is to invite deep rest and relaxation, and explore self-inquiry and self-discovery.
Used in sound healing work, singing bowls are believed to calm the mind as well as reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, improve breathing and circulation, help alleviate aches and pains, strengthen the immune system, and improve mood.
Meditation Changed My Life
My emphasis used to lean heavily on the body’s physical health. I never missed a workout. Meditation, well…I dabbled. A workout accomplishes something. What does just sitting there noticing the thoughts in my head do, especially when I have a sink full of dishes to wash? Sure, I meditated, but it didn’t amount to much more than a small item at the bottom of a long priority list.
Now I meditate every day without effort. Meditation has become even more of a natural habit to me than exercise because I crave it on a higher level; because it feeds my soul.
Meditation touched something in me that reminded me of the Earth’s inherent goodness. It told me that this goodness is the life that courses through every being on the planet, and a delicate, invisible web that connects all humans.
Because of meditation, I find beauty. It’s in everything. It’s in the present moment, not in regrets of my past or longings for my future. Meditation creates refuge in the silence between my thoughts.
Meditation does not free us from the suffering and negative emotions that go with being human. But I can tell you that the way I now tend to respond to these challenges has changed everything. Meditation has gifted me with clarity that carries into every corner of my life.
Why Meditate?
Our thoughts greatly influence our mental health. Meditation is the habitual process of training our minds to focus on the present moment: To stop the spinning, mental time-travel, and narratives of ruminating and catastrophizing that we replay over and over in our minds. Through meditation we can become “watchers” of our own minds, becoming aware of our negative thought patterns and redirecting them. By increasing awareness of ourselves and our surroundings, meditation can foster a positive mood and outlook, self-discipline, and healthy sleep patterns. Proven studies reveal reduced stress levels and anxiety. It can even result in increased pain tolerance.
You won’t have epiphanies every time you meditate. Sometimes it’s just calming down. Sometimes it’s grounding yourself from turbulent emotions. But meditation is not a means to an end, it’s just awareness–with no expectation. You just keep showing up, and you trust. Often you will see results “off the pillow” through improved coping skills. When things get stressful, do you respond, or react?
Meditation and Reiki Sessions
Meditation and Reiki naturally flow hand-in-hand. Guided meditation during your Reiki session can deepen your experience and level of relaxation. It may help aid you in healing a specific negative mental pattern or empowering a goal you have through a deeper connection to self. Thanks for these weeks of incredible yoga. I have had many yoga teachers, and you rank at the top! I love the gentle beginning, and the water music at the end followed by the quiet. A good spiritual and physical workout.
